Senekerim Amira Balyan (? - Jerusalem, 2 Sept. 1833)

Senekerim Amira Balyan was the third son of Bali Kalfa and the younger brother of Kirkor Amira Balyan. Very little is known about either his life or works. His only known work of significance is the stone fire tower in Beyazit, which today stands in the grounds of Istanbul University. This limestone tower was originally built as a monument to justice. Construction began immediately after the abolition of the Janissary Corps and was completed in 1828. Senekerim Balyan died while on pilgrimage to Jerusalem and was buried in the Zion Cemetery next to the Armenian Monastery of St. Saviour in Jerusalem.
