THE FIRST OTTOMAN STAMP

The Ottoman Empire, which spread out at the turn of the 19th century covering a major part of "advanced" civilisation from Yugoslavia, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania in the west, to Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the borders of Persia in the east, installed its postal organization in 1840 and issued its first adhesive in 1863.

The horizontal pair of two garish blue TUGRA stamp is the first stamp of Turkey and is one of two recorded unused items.
