Uğur Seyrek was born in Denizli in 1958. Between 1971 and 1978 he studied at the State Conservatory of Ankara. In 1979 he began working as a soloist dancer at the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. In 1981 he went to Germany and worked as a soloist dancer at the Gersenkirchen Musik Theatre (1981-1983); Berlin Deutsche Oper (1983-1984); Mannheim National Theatre (1984-1985); and Stuttgart Staatstheatre (1985-1998). He went to over 58 different countries with them and had opportunities to meet well known choreographers in the world.
In 1983 Seyrek started painting and making sculptures in Berlin. He has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions. In 1985 he received a diploma from the John Cranko Stuttgart Ballet Academy. In 1997 he took a leading role in “Romeo and Juliet” with Malakov, one of the most important dancers in the world. Seyrek has also participated in numerous dance festivals in Turkey and abroad. In 1999 he graduated from Württenbergische Stuttgart Ballet Academy, and received a diploma for being a dance teacher. Under the name of the Nover Young Choreographer Association, Seyrek choreographed 5 performances with Stuttgart Ballet dancers. In 2001 he served as a choreographer in the Istanbul Ballet for 9 months. Since 1997 Seyrek has choreographed performances such as “Bolero”, “Balloon”, “Scream”, "Mavi Gözlü Dev (Giant with Blue Eyes)” in the Ankara Ballet (on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey); “Contract” in the Antalya Ballet; ballet and contemporary dance work “Identifications” in the Cemal Reşit Rey Dance Theatre in Istanbul. For the season of 1998 and 2000 of the Ankara State Ballet, he held 8 tours in Germany. He also added the most important choreographers′ works such as Marcia Haydee’s “Sleeping Beauty”, John Cranko’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, Uwe Scholz’s “Seventh Symphony”, and J. Kylian’s “Forgotten Country” into the repertoire of the Ankara State Ballet. As of today, Seyrek has contributed to the Bodrum Aspat Dance Platform.
