İnci Özdil was born in Ankara. She is the first woman’s conductor in Turkey. She started music education with Nimet Karatekin in the Department of Piano at Ankara State Conservatory in 1971. She continued her study at the Department of Composition in 1976. In 1981, she also studied at the Department of Orchestra Conducting. She graduated from the Department of Piano in 1983. In the same year, Özdil received a fellowship from the Turkish government and went to England to study orchestra conducting. In the Guildhall School of Music and Royal Academy of Music, she studied orchestra and chorus conducting with Sir Colin Davis, George Hurst and Chorus conductor Horst Neumann. In 1986, Özdil worked on German Romantic music with Carlo Maria Giulini at Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Italy. In 1988, she was awarded “the best interpreter” in a festival, which was held in the name of German composer Hans Werner Henze. In the same year, Özdil graduated from the Department of Orchestra conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. After returning to Turkey, she conducted the opening of the State Chorus. In 1989, she received a fellowship from Russian Government and went to Russia and studied Russian music at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1991, she was invited to the Breda Music Festival as a conductor and gave a concert. Between 1992 and 1994, she served as a supporting conductor in the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra. In 1994, Özdil was appointed as a conductor in the Antalya Chamber Orchestra by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
