Tonguç Yaşar, a renowned caricaturists in Turkey, was born in Istanbul in 1932. He started drawing caricature in 1952. His first caricature was published in Hür Adam magazine in 1952. He drew caricatures for weekly magazines such as Akbaba, Dolmuş, Tef, Taş Karikatür, and Yön; and daily newspapers including Vatan. Yaşar compiled his caricatures in the book Sülüname. He has received many awards for his caricatures, and served as a jury member for many caricature competitions. He has had his solo caricature exhibitions in Turkey.
Besides drawing caricatures, Yaşar has shot cartoon films. He received a jury prize for his film "Amentü Gemisi Nasıl Yürüdü" in the Adana Altın Koza Film Festival in 1972. This film was selected to be screened in the 9th Annecy Cartoon Film Festival as the first Turkish cartoon film. Yaşar also received prizes for his cartoon film "Yaşa Don Kişot" in the TRT Culture, Art, and Science Awards; and at the Best Film Award in the Darüsşafaka Cinema Club 1st International Cinema Festival. Yaşar shot the Nasreddin Hoca′s film, which was awarded the first prize in the Nasreddin Hoca Cartoon Film Festival. He has shot 16 short cartoon films. Currently, Yaşar continues to draw caricatures at his office in Beyoğlu, Istanbul.
