Övül Durmuşoğlu was born in Ankara in 1978. After graduating from the Department of Translation and Interpreting at Bogazici University, she completed her master’s degree on the Theory Branch of Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design at Sabanci University. Durmusoğlu participated in the Critical Studies at Malmö Art Academy between 2005 and 2006. Besides contributing to the magazines such as Genis Aci, Cogito, and Kaos GL, she has been working with Altyazi Monthly Cinema Magazine since its foundation. She published her recent work at Paletten and n.paradoxa. After co-curating Ittihad Sigorta Exhibition at 2005, she initiated and organized the international street action performances and talk series "EXOCiTi" in 2006. In 2007, Durmuşoğlu was involved with some projects of Generali Foundation in Vienna, and curated “RadikalArt: Face-to-Face” that used the billboards all around Istanbul for presenting over 40 contemporary artworks. In June 2007, she received the Premio Lorenzo Bonaldi, Young Curators Award for her exhibition “Data Recovery”, GAMeC Bergamo. In 2010, she was awarded a Rave Scholarship to work on a collaborative project of the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations, Stuttgart and the Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart. Her recent curatorial projects include: “Another Country–Eine andere Welt”, ifa Galerie Stuttgart (2010) and ifa-Galerie Berlin (2010–2011); “The New Horizon”, STROOM, The Hague (2010); and “My Voice My Weapon of Choice”, Kasa Galeri, Istanbul (2010). Currently, Durmuşoğlu lives and works in Istanbul and Berlin.
