Yaşam Şaşmazer

Yaşam Şaşmazer was born in Istanbul in 1980. She studied sculpture at the workshop of Prof. Rahmi Aksungur and graduated from the Sculpture Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University in 2003. That same year, she won the Sakıp Sabancı Art Awards and received second place in the Sculpture Department of Mimar Sinan University. She completed her master’s degree at her alma mater in 2006. Working in solid wood, Şaşmazer creates life-sized figures of children to explore many issues and concepts such as good, bad, adulthood, and authority. She has had several solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions and art fairs in Turkey and Europe. Currently, Şaşmazer lives and works in Istanbul.
