Prof. Dr. Fethiye Erbay graduated from the Faculty of Education at Marmara University in 1984. She completed her master′s degree (1987) and doctoral degree (1992) at the Faculty of Business Administration of Istanbul University. In 1994 she pursued her post doctoral studies on Museum Studies and Management at Leicester University and completed her second doctoral degree in Art Management in the Faculty of Education at Marmara University in 1996.
Dr. Erbay received her Associate Professorship at Boğaziçi University (2002) and Professorship at Istanbul University (2002). She has published numerous articles in national and international journals. She has also written for numerous art catalogues. She has published many books including Cumhuriyet Dönemi Sanatsal Değişimin Yayınlara Yansıması (2005), Cumhuriyet Dönemi Atatürk′ün Sanat Politikası (2006), Müzeleri Kurumlaştırma Çabası (2009), and Sanat Yönetiminin Boyutları (2009). Dr. Erbay has organized many national and international conferences.
In 2000-2002 Dr. Erbay taught at the Department of Art Management of Yeditepe University and the Faculty of Art Design of Yıldız Technical University. She also taught at the Faculty of Education of Boğaziçi University (2003-2006) and the Department of Museum Studies of Yıldız Technical University (1989-2009). Prof. Dr. Erbay currently teaches Art Management in the Faculty of Art Design at Istanbul Culture University, Painting, Applied Arts, and Art & Architecture of Historical Capitals in the Department of Fine Arts at Boğaziçi University, and Museum Studies at Istanbul University. Dr. Erbay has also been working as an advisor for establishment and planning of museums since 1994.
Besides her academic career, Prof. Dr. Erbay is a painter and has had 14 solo exhibitions in Turkey, Germany and the US. She has also participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She has curated more than 27 exhibitions.
Prof. Dr. Erbay received many awards including a distinguished contribution award for art and culture from Hamburg Turkischer Frauen Kultur Verein (1990) and encouragement award for academic publication from the Rectorate of Young Teacher Members. She is a member of SAYED (Association of Arts Writers and Critics), Association of Fine Arts, Association of Museology, Turkish Society of the History of Medicine, and UPSD.
