Associate Professor Dr. Haluk Dursun was born in Hereke in 1957. He studied Turkish Republic and Contemporary History and graduated from the Department of Literature in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University. He completed his master’s degree with his thesis titled “Understanding the State in Islamic Public Law, and doctoral degree with his dissertation, “Ottoman-British rivalry in the Middle East in the period of Sultan Abdülhamid II” (1994) at the Social Sciences Institute of Marmara University.

Since 1982, he has given lectures on "Ottoman History", "History of Civilization", "Turkish Cultural History", "Historical places of Istanbul", "City Culture of Istanbul", "Istanbul Bosphorus Culture", "Education and Cultural policies of the Republic Era", and "the Role of Museums in Historical Education" at the Department of History in the Atatürk Faculty of Education of Science and Letters at Marmara University. He took part in the Miniatürk Project as a Director Consultant for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Culture Inc. He was appointed as a member of the Director′s Board at the Touring and Automobile Club of Turkey by the Turkish Ministry of Interior. In the Touring and Automobile Club of Turkey, Dursun served as Vice President (2005-2006), and took on a position as an administrator in 2011. From 2006 to 2012, he served as president at the Hagia Sophia Museum along with his position as a director from 2009 to 2011. He is also a member of the Beyoğlu and Fatih City Councils. Since July 2012, he has served as president at the Topkapı Palace Museum.

Dr. Dursun has written in various journals on culture and arts; and organized and presented TV programs of history, culture and arts. He has published 6 books. He won a press award for his series of articles “Elveda Boğaziçi” (Farewell Bosporus), published in Zaman Daily in 1989. He received the Travel Writer Award from the Writers’ Union of Turkey (TYB) for his book “Nil’den Tuna’ya” (From the Nile to the Danube).
