Prof. Dr. Kıymet Giray graduated from the Department of Art History of Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of the University of Ankara. She received her Master’s degree from the same faculty with her dissertation on "The Life and Art of Mahmut Cûda" and her Ph.D. from the Institute of Social Studies of the Ankara University with her thesis on "The Association of Independent Artists and Sculptors".
After working as a teacher of art history at Ankara Başkent High School, and Çankaya High School, Giray was assigned as faculty member to the Art History Department of Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of the University of Ankara, a position she continues to hold. In 2002 she was awarded the title and position of associate professor and was appointed chairman of the Art History Department. She was named full professor in February 2008.

Prof. Dr. Giray has also been art consultant to Turkish Emlak Bank and İş Bank, and undertaken the preparation of individual exhibitions for many artists and wide-ranging retrospective expositions. She has been the organizer of the annual Ankara University Painting and Sculpture Symposium, launched in 2006. Giray was consultant and script-writer for numerous documentary programs of the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) such as “Portraits from Turkish Art”, “From School of Fine Arts to Academy of Fine Art”, “Pictorial Ornamentation in Western Anatolian Architecture”, “Seljuk Palaces Brought to Light”, “From Clay to Porcelain”, “The Golden Apple and the First Architects of Ankara”, “A Magic Mirror”, and “Let′s Go and History of Turkish Garments.” Her articles, commentaries and critiques have appeared in journals such as Boyut, Gösteri, Sanat Çevresi, Türkiye′de Sanat, Genç Sanat, Antik Dekor, and AD. She has also written for newspapers such as Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet and Siyah Beyaz.
