Prof. Dr. Rüçhan Arık finished Istanbul Şişli Terakki High School and Ankara College for Girls. She graduated from the Department of Art History of Ankara University in 1959. In 1960-1961 she went to Germany with the DAAD scholarship and studied on ceramic art and European Painting Art at Heidelberg University. In 1976-78 she worked at London University, School of Oriental and African Studies. With Prof. Dr. K. Otto Dorn, she completed her Ph.D. at Ankara University in 1963. In 1967 she started to work at the Faculty of Letters in Ankara University. She became an associate professor in 1972 and a tenured professor in 1978. Between 1982 and 1986 she served as the Founder Dean in Gazi Educational Faculty. In 1984-1987 she worked as the general director of the Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection Boards for Anatolia and Ankara region. She became the dean of Faculty of Letters in Ankara University between 1986 and 1995. Since 1980 she has been continuing archaeological excavation and restoration project in Beyşehir, Kubad Abad Seljuk Palace site. She has also continued surface research in Antique Malatya. She was charged with a director of the committee for the evaluation project of history, tourism, archaeology in Göller region by the Presidency of a Republic. The result of research and excavations were published as a book. To give her conference and make research, she was invited to Japan by Japanese Prince Mikasa and Idemitsu Museum (1985, 1988) and to China by Republic of China, Ministry of Education. She was also invited to the academic institutions and universities in Russia, Albania, France, Holland, Bergium, İsrael, Azerbaycan, Kazakhstan and Italy. Prof. Rüçhan Arık was the member of the committee of International Turkish Art (from 1986 to 2003). She was awarded the prize of “Comandador”, which is the medal of Spanish King, Juan Carlos, for her contribution to the relationship of science and culture between Turkey and Spain. In 1995-1996, she went to Taiwan and taught National as a guest professor at Cheng-Chi University. She has had participated in many congress and symposiums with her papers in Turkey and abroad. Prof. Arık is still one of the committee Boards of Turkish Ministry of Culture, Preservation of Cultural and Historical Heritage protection and the director of Çanakkale region.
