Prof. Dr. Semra Germaner graduated from the Department of Painting in the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Art in 1967. She continued her studies of Art History and Modern Art at Université de Paris I ,Sorbonne Institut d′Art et d′Archéologie in 1968-1973. In 1973 she prepared her thesis "La Lumière dans la Peinture Abstraite” and received her masters degree from the same university. She completed her doctorate at Istanbul Technique University, Faculty of Architecture in 1979. Her doctoral thesis was "Son Osmanlı Dönemi İstanbul Ahşap Konutlarında Cephe Bezemeleri". She became an associate professor in 1985 and a tenured professor in 1992. In 1994 - 1998 Prof. Germaner was a board member of the Turkish Ministry of Culture, the Directorate of Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection, Istanbul no.2. In 1995-2003 she was the chair of the Research and Application Center for Turkish Art in Mimar Sinan University. At the same time she served as the chair of Department of Art History, Faculty of Letters in Mimar Sinan University. In 2001-2003 Prof. Germaner was the director of the Research and Application Center for Restoration of fine art in the Istanbul Museum of Painting and Sculpture. Since 1974 she has served in the Department of Art History, Faculty of Letters at Mimar Sinan Fine Art University. She has attended and lectured at many conferences and has published many books and articles in Turkey and abroad.
