Seyit Ali Kahraman was born in Kayseri in 1953. He graduated from the Philosophy Department in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1977. After completing his master′s degree in Philosophy at his alma mater, he taught philosophy for a while. From 1987 to 1992, Kahraman worked as an archivist at the General Directorate of Foundations (Vakıflar Genel Müdürlüğü). From 1993 to 2006, he worked at the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, the General Directorate of State Archives (Başbakanlık Devlet Arşivleri Genel Müdürlüğü, Osmanlı Arşivi Daire Başkanlığı). In 2006, he served as a commission member in the Turkish Language Institution. He currently serves as a member of the group "Main Glossary of the Terms of Science and Art" and "Electronic Language Publishing on Research and Application." Kahraman has published more than 50 books and articles on Ottoman History and Culture. He received the Evliya Çelebi Turkish Language Special Prize in the International Turkish Language Olympics (2011). Kahraman continues to work as a specialist at the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives, and as the General Directorate of State Archives in Istanbul.
