Aslı Erel was born in Istanbul in 1980. In 1998, she started learning traditional Turkish design from Semih İrteş. At the same time, Erel took Turkish decorative arts classes at the Topkapı Palace Museum. In 2003, she graduated from the Photography Department at Yıldız Technical University. She worked at several agencies, and took many pictures for magazines. In 2005, she designed using traditional Turkish Arts motifs for the Artrumi. Erel has held many solo exhibitions and has participated in group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. Currently, she continues working in Istanbul.
