Ruth Benice was born in Switzerland in 1940. She started decorating porcelains in 1953. In 1962, she got married to architect Oktay Benice and received a Turkish citizenship. She continued to decorate porcelains with famous painter Nelly Perin. In 1996, Benice founded her workshop and started giving classes on different painting ways on porcelain. She participated in two group exhibitions: “Foundation Giannada” and “Chateau d’Yverdon”. In 2000, Benice participated with her two works in the VI. “Convention Azzura” in Como, Italy, and received a prize of Impronte. She also participated with her works in the VII. “Convention Azzura” and received second prize, “Second Absolut Prize”. In 2002, she got an order from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and made “100 pins / broaches + 600 glass plates” (fusion+bend+hand painting+baking in an oven), which were inspired by nazar boncuğu / blue beads (evil eyes). Benice received a gold medal in the 4th “Internationale Ausstellung Kunst auf Porzellan und Glass” competition among 290 art works. Design and application of porcelain was made by Esin Küçükbiçmen. Ruth Benice has had many solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. She continues to work at her workshop in Ankara. |
