Orçun Okurgan was born in Izmir in 1980. Since 2006 he has been living and working in Istanbul. He graduated from the Department of Contemporary Dance at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory in 2011. In the same year he was invited to the International Theatre School Festival (IT′s) in Amsterdam to stage his BA thesis project. He choreographed two dance films: "Glitch" with Sevinç Baltalı and Gökçe Sungur, and "Tahterevalli" with Irmak Karasu and Nihat Karataşlı. In 2012 Okurgan performed "Tahterevalli" with Semra Kap at the Istanbul Bilgi University Santralistabul Modern Art Museum. Okurgan currently pursues his Master′s degree at Mimar Sinan University, where he teaches contemporary dance technique. He also teaches at Yıldız Technical University.
As choreographer, dancer, performance artist, and instructor, Okurgan has participated in various national and international festivals such as Impulstanz Vienna International Dance Festival, International Theatre School Festival Amsterdam ( IT’s ), ICAF Istanbul Culture Art Foundation Theatre Festival, Dance Platform 2010 Istanbul, MTU Contemporary Dance Days Ankara, and the Aegean University Dance Days Izmir. He worked with many choreographers including Aydın Teker, Tuğçe Tuna, Deniz Alp, Cem Ertekin, Jordi Gali, Molly Maxner, Emio Greco, Inaki Azpillaga, Ted Stoffer, Gabby Agis, Francesco Scaveta, Laura Aris, and Tamas Moricz.
