Seda Aybay was born in Istanbul. She began her dance training in French, German & Russian ballet techniques in Turkey. Subsequently, she trained, performed and choreographed internationally in modern, jazz, and tap dance forms, becoming a three-time first place winner in modern form at the Turkish National Dance competition. After moving to the United States, Aybay graduated with honors from the UCLA Worlds Arts and Cultures Department in choreography.
In 2003, Aybay founded Kybele Dance Theater. Her productions and original works have been performed in Los Angeles, New York and Seattle. She has performed with numerous dance companies including the Synapse Dance Theatre, Folklorico de SMC, Ney Nava, Liliana de Leon Torsiello, Alex De Silva, the Praxis Project, the Lion′s Pounds Theater (as a soloist), the Lula Washington Dance Theater, the Brockus Project and Kin Dance (as a guest performer).
Aybay has also taken an active part in community projects by giving dance classes and organizing and choreographing performances at the Arts Bridge Program of UCLA, the “D.A.R.E" programs, Santa Monica College, Praxis Project, Cerritos College, Spectrum, Marina Del Rey Middle School performance magnet, LACSA and the Why Dance Matters dance series. Aybay has also been featured by KTLA Channel 9, Univision Kmex34 and Fox11 as a performer. She teaches different levels of Modern, Jazz and Lyrical classes for adults and children.
