Sibel Kasapoğlu was born in Istanbul. She finished Istanbul German Lycee, and studied at the State Conservatory Ballet Section and Mimar Sinan University, Stage and Visual Arts Faculty. In 1978, she became a member of the State Opera and Ballet in Istanbul and danced solo and leading roles in various ballets. Between 1980 and 1993, Kasapoğlu went to London to choreograph and dance ballet. She participated in a choreography course and workshop with Jacob Marley in the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance. Kasapoğlu was chosen as one of eight choreographers in the International Dance Course for Professional Choreographers and Composers workshop organized by the Creative Dance Artists Trust. In 1990, her first choreography was performed by the ITU foundation. Between 1996 and 1997 she was an editor of the culture and art program “Applause” in Canal D on TV. Between 2000 and 2001 she prepared the ballet project “Embrace” in Babylon. In 1999 Kasapoğlu started painting and founded the workshop “Atölye 83” with Banu Tarhan in 2000. Kasapoğlu has had two solo exhibitions and has participated in many group exhibitions in Turkey. She currently works as a ballerina and choreographer in the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.
