Kuzey Kıyıcan was born in Ankara in 1984. He started ballet at the age of 10 and got accepted into Hacettepe Ankara State Conservatory when he was 11 years old. He studied there for the following five years. In 2000, he was invited to the Kirov Academy of Ballet’s Summer Program by Mme. Yelena Vinogradova with full scholarship. In the academy, he studied under Viladimir Djouloukhadze, Anatoli Kucheruk and Alla Sizova. Kıyıcan won a prize in the finals of Youth America Grand Prix in 2002. He graduated from the Kirov Academy of Ballet in May 2002 but stayed there and continued to study for another season.
In July 2003, Oleg Vinogradov (the former Director of the Kirov Ballet in St. Petersburg) invited Kıyıcan to work in the Universal Ballet Company in Seoul, where he started his professional career as a Corps De Ballet. In there, Kıyıcan worked with Julia Moon, the General Director of UBC, and Evgeny Neff, the Ballet master. Kıyıcan also danced in productions like “All Shall Be” by Hans Spoerli and “Requiem” by Jean Paul Commelin. In 2005, Kıyıcan started to work in a neo-classic company, the Seoul Ballet Theatre. In 2006, he danced as W.A. Mozart in James Jeon’s choreography “Marriage of Figaro” for the anniversary of W.A. Mozart’s 250th birthday.
Since 2007, Kıyıcan has been dancing as a principle dancer in the Lee Won Kuk Ballet Company, with the famous Korean dancer Lee Won Kuk, who is also the director of the company.
