Berk Sarıbay was born in Izmir in 1977. In 1988, he entered the Ballet Department of the Izmir State Conservatory. In 1991, he transferred to the Ankara State Conservatory and studied with Hennadi Potapoviç and Vladimir Tolstuhin. After graduating from the Ballet Department at the Ankara State Conservatory in 1997, Sarıbay pursued his master’s degree at his alma mater. He also started working as a dancer in the Ankara State Opera and Ballet General Directorate. He participated as a part of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet in the 1998 Asia Dance Festival, which was held in Japan, and performed Oytun Turfanda’s “Yoz Döngü”. He performed as one of the member of the Ankara State Opera and Ballet in many European cities. Between 1997 and 2002, Sarıbay performed as a soloist and étoile (the leading ballet dancer) in many ballets such as “the Three Musketeers”, “the Nutcracker”, “full-fledged”, “Blue”, “Return to a Strange Land”, “the Sleeping Beauty”, “the Taming of the Shrew”, “Concerto”, and “Who Cares”. He had many opportunities to work with famous choreographers such as Oytun Turfanda, Andrei Prokovsky, Uwe Scholz, James Sutherland, Arlette Van Boven, Marcia Haydee, Mauro Bigonzetti, Uğur Seyrek, and Nanette Glushak.
In the season of 2000, Sarıbay choreographed the ballet “Bab-ı Esrar” for the First Turkish Dance Platform, which was organized by the State Opera and Ballet General Directorate. In the season of 2002, the ballet “Nefesini Yitirmek”, which Sarıbay choreographed for the Second Turkish Dance Platform, was chosen as an opening ballet in the Kazakhstan Dance Festival. In the same year, this work stayed in the finals in the International Choreography Contest, which was held in Hannover. Between 2002 and 2003, Sarıbay transferred to the Istanbul State Ballet. He has played the principal role in many classical ballets including “the Taming of the Shrew”, “Swan Lake”, “La Bayadere”, “Giselle”, and “Romeo and Juliet”. He choreographed the ballet “İste Mutluluk Bu!” which was dramatized by Çiğdem İnan, for the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet. In 2008, Sarıbay choreographed the theater “Neşeli Bir Gün”, which was directed by Çiğdem İnan. Currently, Sarıbay serves as an étoile and choreographer in the Istanbul State Ballet.
