Filiz Akcakal was born in Turkey in 1971. She graduated from Mimar Sinan University, and after working for 5 years in Istanbul, moved to Amsterdam to study fashion at the Utrecht School of Fine Arts. Since 2000, Akcakal has had many fashion shows, and received several prizes including a prize at the International Young Designers Competition in Brussels, and a prize at the ITS competition in Trieste. In October 2010, she presented fashion art on a catwalk in Istanbul. In 2012, Akcakal was inspired by the most mysterious phenomenon of the Ottoman Empire: the existence of the Harem in the Topkapı Palace, and created her collection "Inquam", which was showcased as a live performance during the opening of the 7th Contemporary Istanbul. Currently, she continues to develop her own unique style in Amsterdam.
