Vural Gökçaylı went to Paris in 1962 after he finished Italian High School in Istanbul. He studied first French Language and Literature at Alliance Française, and then had an education on theater costume at Ecole du Louvre and Académie des Beaux Arts. After serving as an intern in Givenchy, Gökçaylı worked with Angelo Tarlatzi as an assistant beside Michel Goma, who was an artistic director in Jean Patou. Gökçaylı learned about Houte Couture from Goma. In 1967, he became an artistic director in Franz Molenar in Holland. During staying in Amsterdam, he had three collections, which were exhibited in Paris, New York and Berlin. In 1968, Gökçaylı went back to Paris and designed for the collection of Sylvie Vartan’s boutique. In the same year, Gökçaylı returned to Turkey and founded his workshop in Istanbul. He prepared his first collection at the Büyük Ankara Hotel in Ankara and the Park Hotel in Istanbul. Since 1998, Gökçaylı has taught “the History of Costume and Fashion” at Yeditepe University.
