Cem Akaş was born in Manheim in 1968. He lived there until 1974, and then moved to Izmit in Turkey with his family. He studied Chemical Engineering (BSc) at Boğaziçi University, Political Science (MA) at Boğaziçi University and Turkish History (PhD) at Columbia University. Akaş gave classes on “creative writer” at Sabancı University. He also worked as a free editor and translator. Akaş then worked for Yapı Kredi Publications in Istanbul between 1992 and 2004. In 2004, Akaş left Yapı Kredi and founded his own publishing group: “g yayın grubu”. His works have been published not only in Turkey but also in Canada, Germany, Austria and Argentina.
