Ece Temelkuran was born in Izmir in 1973. She graduated from the Faculty of Law at Ankara University in 1995. She started working as a journalist for Cumhuriyet newspaper in 1993. Her first writing was published in the “Patika” magazine. She focused on women’s activity, political detainers and convicts, and the problem of the Southeast of Turkey. In 1996, she published the book “Bütün Kadınların Kafası Karışıktır.” In the same year, she was selected as the “Journalist of the Year” by the German Government and went to Germany to research women’s activities. In 1997, Temelkuran published the book “Oğlum Kızım Devletim-Evlerden Sokaklara Tutuklu Anneleri.” In 1998, she received the Best Journalist Award from the Young Civil Service Society. She has written many articles and writings in many national and international magazines. She received the Tabipler Odası “Research of the Year” Award for her writing “Bekaret Testi Suçtur”, which was written for Cumhuriyet magazine. Temelkuran worked as a reporter for CNN Turk. She has published more than 16 books. In 2002, she received the “Beyaz Yorum” Award from the BAL Foundation for her columns which were written for Milliyet newspaper. Temelkuran visited Brazil (2003) and India (2004) to watch the process of the World Social Forum. In 2007, she received the “Barış Kalemi” (Peace Pen) Award from the Modern Journalists Association for her anti-war writings. In 2008, she was awarded the "Ayşenur Zarakolu Freedom of Thought" Award by the Human Rights Association. Since 2010, Temelkuran has written and presented the program “Kıyıdan” on Habertürk TV. She is among the seven writers of the play “Son Bir Kez.”
