Efe Murat Balıkçıoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1987. He graduated from the Philosophy Department at Princeton University. He is currently Ph. D. candidate in History and Middle East Studies at Harvard University. In 2004 he published "Madde Akımı Manifestosu" in a journal Adam Sanat with Cem Kurtuluş. Balıkçıoğlu has published five poetry books in Turkish and three books of translations from Iranian poets M. Azad and Fereydoon Moshiri and American poet C. K. Williams.
With a poet Sidney Wade, Balıkçıoğlu prepared a selection of Melih Cevdet Anday′s poetry works in English, which won the Meral Divitçi Award for Turkish Poetry in Translation in 2014, organized by the Nazim Hikmet Poetry Festival. These works have been published in various poetry journals such as Little Star, Two Lines, Asymptote and Guernica. Balıkçıoğlu′s articles, poems and translations have been published in many magazines and journals including Adam Sanat, Cogito, Dergah, Fayrap, Heves, Jacket, Kitap-lık, Mahfil, Sanat Dünyamız, Talisman, Varlık and Yasakmeyve. His poetry works appeared in Shahzia Sikander′s installation work "Pivot" in the opening of the 13th Istanbul Biennial.
