Gündüz Vassaf was born in the United States in 1946. After finishing Robert College, he studied psychology at George Washington University in 1968. In 1977 he completed his doctorate at Hacettepe University. He worked as a psychologist for students at Ankara University, Mediko Social Center for a long time. Vassaf served in the board committee of the International Psychologist Council. After the 12th September Military Coup, he resigned from Boğaziçi University. Since then he has served as a guest professor in Kassel, Bremen and Marburg Universities in Germany; as a guest academician in McGill University, the Center for Developing Area Studies in Canada; as a clinic psychologist in Averoes Stichting in Amsterdam; and as a guest researcher in Institut für Höhere Studien in Vienna. Currently Vassaf writes column in Radikal Newspaper.
