Hakan Savlı was born in Ankara in 1965. He brought up in Iskenderun. After graduating from the Medical Faculty of Samsun University in 1989, he pursued his doctoral degree in Oncology at the Oncology Institute of Istanbul University in 1991. From 1992 to 1993, he conducted his research at the University of London, Royal Marsden Hospital and King′s College Hematology Lavoratory. In 1994, Savlı worked at the Unit of Organ Transplantation of Istanbul University, the Çapa Medical Faculty. In 1995 he joined a research team of organ transplantation and bone marrow transplantation at the Transplantation Laboratory of Helsinki University. In Finland, Dr. Savlı worked on cancer genetics with a molecular method. Since 1999, Dr. Savlı teaches at the Medical Faculty of Kocaeli University. He continues his post doctoral research on leucemia genetics in Finland.
Besides being his career, Savlı is a poet. He has published many poetry books such as Köpükler (1996), Sanşo Panza′nın Ölümü (1997), Go Dersleri-Sonsuzluğa Yeni Başlayanlar İçin (2000), Yalnızca Müzik İçin (2003), Turuncu (2005), and Gizli (2015). He has also published his poems in various literary journals. Savlı has received many awards including a Sabri Altınel Poetry Award (1994), a Cemal Süreya Poetry Award (1995), and a Behçet Necatigil Poetry Award (2001).
