Mehmet Taner was born in Nevşehir in 1946. After graduating from the Theatre Department in the Faculty of Language, History, and Geography at Ankara University, he worked as a speaker and producer at several radios such as TRT Ankara, TRT Erzurum, TRT Hakkari, TRT Kars and TRT Van. In 1976 he changed his career and worked on insurance business.
Taner′s poems have been published in many literary journals such as Adam Sanat, Bahçe, Defter, Edebiyat ve Eleştiri, Oluşum, Sanat Dergisi, Sombahar, Tan, Türk Dili, Türkiye Yazıları, Varlık, and Yusufçuk. He founded the Tan Publications in Ankara in 1980. Taner has received several awards including a TRT award for his poems (1970), Turkish Language Society Poetry Award (1981), a Golden Orange Poetry Award (2000), and a Behçet Necatigil Poetry Award (2005). He was selected as one of four successful young poets of the year by Milliyet Art Magazine in 1974. Taner currently continues his work in Ankara.
