Ahmet Arpad

Ahmet Arpad was born in Istanbul in 1942. He graduated from the Department of German Language and Literature at Istanbul University. He is a writer, photographer and translator. Since 1968 he has also been working as a free journalist for Cumhuriyet newspaper. Arpad has published several books including "Sakın Bize Benzemeyin" (2006), "Alman Edebiyatı Öykü Antolojisi" (2005) and "Karanlıkta Gölgeler" (2002). He has translated numerous works of foreign writers such as Heinrich Böll, Gerhard Hauptmann, Hermann Hesse, Stefan Zweig, Anna Seghers, Alfred Döblin, Joseph Roth, Pablo Neruda, Johannes Mario Simmel, Thomas Bernhard and Harry Mulisch. In 1999, Arpad founded the German-Turkish Forum with Edzard Reuter and Prof. Manfred Rommel along with a support of the State of Baden-Württemberg, the Municipality of Stuttgart and the Robert Bosch Foundation.

Arpad has received many awards including Tarabya Translation Award (2012) and Talat Sait Halman Translation Award (2016). He is a member of PEN Turkey and ÇEVBİR as well as Salzburg Stefan Zweig Centre and der Internationalen Stefan Zweig Gesellschaft Salzburg. He is also a member of Deutsche Presse Verband (DPV). Arpad currently continues his work in Stuttgart, Germany.
