Alpay Kabacalı was born in Antalya in 1942. He finished Antalya High School in 1960. During his education at Istanbul University, School of Law, he worked at several newspapers and magazines. Between 1966 and 1968. He published political and cultural magazine, “Gerçekler Postası” (14. Numbers) He has served as an editorial director in magazines such as Ant, Millet Sanat, Sanat Olayı and Yeni Gündem. He has also worked as a redactor and director at publish houses and news agencies. He was one of the committees of Turkish Encyclopedia “Tanzimat’tan Cumhuriyet’e” and “Cumhuriyet Dönemi Türkiye Ansiklopedisi” between 1980 and 1985. As a free writer, he has continued to write political issues, column, essay, criticism, research and reportage with cultural people at Cumhuriyet New Paper and other magazines. For a long time, Kabacalı served in the board committees of Turkish Writers’ Union (1976-1989) and of Turkish Pen (1991-2001). He was the chairman of Pen Writers’ Association between 1997 and 2001. Since 1999, he is the chairman of the Profession Association for Science and Literature Works (BESAM). Kabacalı has taught graduate students on techniques for press and information at the Faculty of Communication of Istanbul University. He has published numerous writings on literature, general history and press history; and over 40 research books.
