Ahmet Hikmet Altınkaynak was born in Niğde in 1945. He graduated from the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University. His first reviews were published in Yeni Ortam in 1972 and Cumhuriyet daily newspaper in 1975. He worked as a writer, editor, and general publication director for Milliyet and Hürriyet publication groups for 17 years. He presented many TV programs on Kanal D, TV 8 and WDR Cologne Radio. He also worked as an advisor for TRT program "Kimi Kültür Sanat." Altınkaynak worked as publication director for many magazines such as "Eleştiri" (1979-1980), "Yaşasın Edebiyat" (1997-1999). His articles have been published in various journals and magazines such as Yeni Ortam, Cumhuriyet, Vatan, Milliyet, Radikal, Yeni a, Varlık, Türk Dili, Eleştiri, Milliyet Sanat, Ulusal Kültür, Yaşasın Edebiyat, Hürriyet Gösteri and Cumhuriyet Kitap. He has published more than 50 books such as "Edebiyatımızda 1940 Kuşağı," "Zamanla," "Orhan Kemal′in Hikâyeciliği," "Çağdaş Türk Şiiri 1," "Yeni Binyılın Edebiyatçıları," "Dünyayı Paylaşan Yazarlar," "Ünlüler de Çocuktu," "100 Temel Eser," "Oktay Akbal′a Mektuplar," "Türk Edebiyatında Yazarlar" and "Şairler Sözlüğü." One of his book entitled "Atatürk’ü Seviyorum" was translated into Chinese and Uyghur in 2008. In 2001 Altınkaynak began working as an assistant to rector as well as an academic at Yıldız Technical University. He is a jury member of the Yunus Nadi Awards (Story Category) and the Ebubekir Hazım Tepeyran Story Awards. Altınkaynak currently teaches at the Department of Turkish Language of Yıldız Technical University.
