Dr. Sezer Ateş Ayvaz

Sezer Ateş Ayvaz was born in Antakya in 1956. After graduating from the Sociology Department at Istanbul University, she obtained her Master′s and doctoral degree in Social Science at the same university. Ayvaz then worked at several jobs: she prepared articles for an encyclopedia and worked as a scripter for a program on TRT2. Since 1981 she has given sociology and philosophy classes at various universities and institutions. She has also written many articles, essays and reviews for newspapers and magazines.

Her first poem "Anılarda Işık" was published in a journal entitled "Turkiye Yazıları" in 1978. Since then her stories, poems, essays and reviews have been published in many literary journals and newspapers such as Sesimiz, Milliyet Sanat, Varlık, Gösteri and Cumhuriyet Kitap. She has received several awards such as an award for her article "Kasık Düşmanı" in the Abdi İpekçi Art Competition (1986) and a 1987 Akademi Kitapevi Story Achievement Award. Her story book "Tamiris′in Gece Suçları" was awarded with 2006 Yunus Nadi Story Award. Ayvaz is a board member of Turkish PEN Centre. She currently continues her work in Istanbul.
