Ömer Erdem was born in 1967. He graduated from the Faculty of Literature at Istanbul University. He completed his Master′s degree in Turkish Literature at his alma mater. Erdem has written poems and published in various poetry journals including Diriliş, Dergâh, Düşler, Göçebe, Nar, Hece, Sonsuzluk ve Birgün, Yasakmeyve, and Kitap-lık. He established a poetry magazine "Kaşgar" with his group friends. He works as a publication director of Kaşgar magazine. Besides poetry works, Erdem has written essays and critiques. In 2001 he received the Cahit Zarigoğlu Poetry Award for his poem, published in "Yarım Ağaçlar." Erdem has published many poetry books including İslam ve Müslümanlarda Denge Meselesi, Yitirişler, Unutulmayan Mısralar, Mesafesi Kadar İnleyen Rüzgar, Dünyaya Sarkıtılan İpler, Üsküdar (Istanbul, 2009), Kireç (Istanbul, 2010), Evvel (Istanbul, 2010), Kör (Istanbul, 2012), and Pas (Istanbul, 2015). In 2015, he received the First Dağlarca Poetry Award for his book "Pas." Erdem currently writes weekly columns for Zaman daily newspaper and Radikal Kitap in Istanbul.
