Sezai Karakoç was born in Ergani, Diyarbakır in 1933. He finished primary school in Ergani and Maraş middle school in 1947 and Gaziantep High School in 1950. He graduated from the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University in 1954. He worked in the finance sector between 1956 and 1965. After then he worked as a journalist and publisher. He is one of the pioneers of Turkish literature who aims at bringing traditional Islamic beliefs and modern poetic techniques. His first poem was published in "Hisar" in 1951. His poems, essays and analysis were published in many publications such as A, Adam, Akpınar, Büyük Doğu, Dernek, Düşünen Adam, Istanbul, Mülkiye, Pazar Postası, Şiir Sanatı, Yenilik, XX and Asır. In 2007, he founded the Yüce Diriliş Party and has served as a general director since then. In the same year, Karakoç was awarded the Signal Reward on Culture and Art by the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
