Turgay Fişekçi was born in Bakıkesir in 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Istanbul University. He became the director of the Editorial Department of Sanat Emeği journal. Fişekçi then worked for Yazko for a while. He currently works as the director of the Editorial Department of Adam Sanat journal. His first poems were published in Sanat Emeği in 1977. In addition to poetry, Fişekçi has written stories and travel writings. Since 1996 he has written columns entitled Gölgesi for Cumhuriyet newspaper. Fişekçi has published periodical Sözcükler since 2006. He serves as a general secretary in the Nazım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation. Fişekçi received a poetry award from the Academy Publishing House for his first poem book Işıltılar in 1981. He won a story award of the İnklap Publishing House for his story book Hep Yanımda Kal in 2005. He also received Melih Cevdet Anday Poetry Award for his book Güzelle Büyü in 2013.
