Nuri Abaç

Nuri Abaç was born in Kocamustafapaşa neighborhood of Istanbul in 1926. His father was the actor Mahmut Celalettin (Celal Abaç) and his mother was a teacher Sahire Abaç. Nuri started painting in his childhood. In 1944, he entered Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and studied painting with Leopold Levy for a year. Abaç transferred to the Department of Architecture and graduated from the Academy in 1950. While studying, he continued painting and drawing caricatures. Abaç had his first exhibition at the Mersin Public House in 1949. Abaç, who moved to Ankara in 1960, served in the United Associations of Painters and Sculptors in 1989. Afer 1967, he started to exhibit his work not only in Turkey but also abroad, and received many awards. Starting in 1991, Abaç gave perspective classes in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Bilkent University and Hacettepe University. He passed away in Ankara in 2008.
