Tuncel Kurtiz was born in Bilecik in 1936. He graduated from the Department of English Language and Literature at Istanbul University. In 1959, he started acting at the Dormen Theatre. Since then, he has acted in many theatres in Turkey and abroad. He also performed in many international theatres and productions. In the 1970s, he directed plays for the German Turkish theater project “Türkisches Ensemble.” In 1964, Kurtiz debuted as a film actor in the film “Şeytanın Uşakları,” which was shot in 1964. Since then, he has acted in more than 70 national and international films and TV series. Kurtiz became famous in the film “Sürü.” He starred in the TV series “Hacı ve Asi.” In 2009, he acted the role of Kamil Efendi in the film “Güz Sancısı”. In the same year, he performed the role of Ramiz Karaeski in the TV series “Ezel”.
In 1986, Kurtiz was awarded the “best actor (Silver Bear)” for the role of Hilmi in the film “Hiuch HaGdi” in the Berlin Film Festival. In the Altın Portakal Awards, he received the best actor award for his role in the film “Bir Aşk Uğruna” (1994) and “Yaşamın Kıyısında” (2007). In 2008, he won Best Supporting Actor for the role of Ali Aksu in the film “Yaşamın Kıyısında” in the Yeşilçam Awards. Kurtiz passed away in 2013.
