Ülkü Erakalın was born in Istanbul in 1934. After graduating from the Music Department at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory, he started working as a journalist. In 1958 he worked as an assistant of Lütfi Akad. In 1961, he shot his first film “Unutmadığım Kadın” as a director. After then he shot over 200 films including "Lekeli Aşk," "Acı Yıllar," "Aldırma Gönül," "Kadınlar Koğuşu," "Dudaktan Kalbe," "Üvey Ana" and "Ben Sana Mecburum." He received several awards. Erakalın published 4 books such as "Direklerarası’nın Son Direkleri," "Film Karelerine Gizlenen Anılar" (1999), "Yeşilçam’dan Son Yapraklar Belge ve Anılarla Türk Sinemasıın Kırk Yılı" (2000), and "Fotoğraflar Siyah-Beyaz Anılar Renkli" (2002). He managed the production company “Duygu Film.” Erakalın passed away in Istanbul in 2016.
