Prof. Zekai Ormancı was born in Aydın in 1949. He graduated from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1973. During his studies, he worked at the Zeki Faik İzer and Özdemir Altan Studio. He worked as an Assistant Professor at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts, and founded his own tapestry studio (Tapisserie) in 1976. In 1980, he worked at Prof. Albert Bitran′s Studio at the International Salzburg Summer Academy. Ormancı became an Associate Professor in 1986 and Tenured Professor in 1995. In 1990, his project was accepted to the "Artistic Use of Interior Spaces Project" for the Presidential Residence, and he made a 340 x 900 cm tapestry with the help of Harun Acı within 9 months. Prof. Ormancı joined the International Conference Exhibition "Textiles Meiterranees" in Paris, representing Turkey. He exhibited his two tapestries at an exhibition, which was held in Gruissan, Narbonne. Prof. Ormancı had 24 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions; and he won 10 awards. His works can be seen in museums or private collections in Turkey and abroad. Prof. Ormancı passed away in Istanbul in 2008. |
