İzzet Günay was born in Istanbul in 1934. He studied at Deniz College and Haydarpaşa High School. He worked as a technical painter at the Directorate of Town Planning of the Istanbul Municipality. He began acting in plays in high school. In 1957, Günay joined Dormen Theatre. From 1987 to 1963, he acted in many theatre plays such as "Kamp 17,"" Fare Kapanı," "Zafer Madalyası,"" Sokak Kızı İrma," "Pasifik Şarkısı," "İkinci Baskı," "Ayı Masalı," and "Altın Yumruk." In 1959, he made his film debuted in the film "Kırık Plak," which was directed by Osman Seden. Since then, Günay has performed in more than 120 films. In 1964, he received the Best Actor Award in the First Antalya Film Festival. From 1973 to 1980, Günay sung Turkish Classical Music. In 2013, he won the Lifetime Achievement Award in the 20th Altın Koza Film Festival. Günay currently lives and works in Istanbul.
