Menderes Samancılar was born in Adana in 1954. After he won a first place in a competition in 1974, he debuted in the film "İnce Memed Vuruldu," which was directed Yılmaz Duru. Since then Samancılar has acted in over 126 films and TV series. In 1998 he performed in the French film "Hasards ou coincidences," which was shut by Claude Lelouche. In 2005 he performed the play "Slvi Boylum Al Yazmalım" with Kerem Alışık and İpek Tuzcuoğlu at the Sadri Alışık Culture Center. Samancılar has received many awards including the Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film "Sis" in the Golden Orange Film Festival (1989), the Best Actor for his role in the film "Zıkkımın Kökü" in the Adana Golden Ball Film Festival (1993), he Best Supporting Actor in the Turkish Film Critics Association Awards (1993), the Best Actor in the Orhan Murat Arıburnu Awards and in the Contemporary Film Actors Association Awards (1996), the Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film "Gözetleme Kulesi" in the 19th Golden Ball Film Festival (2012), the Tarık Akan Best Actor for his role in the film "Babamın Kanatları" in the 23rd Golden Ball Film Festival (2016), and the Best Actor in the 53rd Golden Orange Film Festival (2016). Besides being an actor, Samancılar is a poet. He published the poetry book Sonbaharın Sarısını Vurdular Gece in 2003. He currently continues his work in Istanbul.
