Derya Alabora was born in Istanbul in 1959. After graduating from the Theater Department in the Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University in 1982, she worked at the Bursa State Theatre for a year. She then worked with Ali Poyrazoğlu for a while, and founded the Tiyatro Grup with Özdemir Çiftçioğlu. Alabora performed at the 5th Sokak Theatre, the DOT and the Garajistanbul. Among plays she performed in are: Kean Genet’s Balkon, Özen Yula’s Ay Tedirginliği, Bryony Lavery’s Donmuş (Frozen) at the DOT, Oyunu Bozun in the Istanbul Theater Festival in 2007 and Sevim Burak’s Ya Seni Rüyasında Bir Daha Hiç Görmezse. Her first film was Bir Kırık Bebek, which was directed by Nisan Akman in 1987. She has performed not only in long films, but also in short films and TV dramas. For her roles in Masumiyet, she was awarded “the Best Actress” in the Antalya Altın Portakal Film Festival and Altın Koza Film Festival. In 2009, she was awarded “the Best Actress” for her role in “Pandora’nın Kutusu” in the 28th International Istanbul Film Festival. As of today Alabora teaches at the Conservatory of Mimar Sinan University and the Digital Film Academy Istanbul.
