Engin Ayça was born in Edremit, Balıkesir in 1941. After finishing at Galatasaray High School, he studied cinema directing at Instituto Superiore Dell Opinione Publica and Centro Sperimentale Di Cinematografia in Rome. Between 1970 and 1974, he worked at Istanbul University Photo-Film Center. He then worked as an assistant for Yılmaz Güney’s film “Arkadaş.” From 1973 to 1975, Ayça published Cinema magazine 7. Sanat with Attila Dorsay and Nezih Coşkun. From 1974 to 1986, Ayça worked as a director in TRT Istanbul and shot many documentary films and culture programs. In 1988, he won the Best Second Film Award and the Best Scenario Award for the film “Bez Bebek” in the First Ankara Film Festival. He has written in various cinema magazines and newspapers and has translated films into Turkish. He has published two translation books: Ayzenştayn’ın Ders Notları and Sinemanın 100. Yılı. Currently, Ayça teaches at Mimar Sinan University, Cinema- TV Institute and writes on cinema.
