Fırat Yücel entered the Sociology Department at Middle East Technical University. He transferred to the Sociology Department of Boğaziçi University where he continued his study. He worked as an editor for making the program brochure of Mithat Alam Film Center, which was established at Boğaziçi University in 2000. In 2001 Yücel published monthly cinema magazine Altyazı with his friends. Since then he has served as chief editor of Altyazı. In addition to Altyazı, Yücel has written many articles on films and film reviews for various newspapers including Akşam, Radikal and Birgün, and magazines such as Asklepios, VS…, Konak Beykoz, İstanbul, Geniş Açı, Katharsis, Bant, Rolling Stone, Aralık, and Picus.
After graduating from Boğaziçi University, Yücel completed his Master′s degree in Cultural Studies at Bilgi University in 2006. He currently pursues his Doctoral degree at the Department of Radio, Television, and Cinema of Istanbul University. Yücel directed a short film "Küçük İlanlar." He serves as catalogue editor of the !f International Independent Film Festival. Yücel is a board member of SIYAD.
