İsmet Yazıcı was born in Samsun. She graduated from the Department of Radio and Television at Marmara University in 1985. She obtained her Master’s degree in 1996 from her alma mater. Her Master′s thesis entitled “Kitle İletişiminde İmaj” (Image in Mass Communication) was published by the Science Publications in 1997. (the second edition, 2003 by IM Publications.) Her second book “Bilincin Haritası” (Map of the Consciousness, 2003) was published by IM Publications.
For a while, Yazıcı worked as a journalist as well as researcher at the Data Research Center. She produced many programs for various television channels including TRT (Turkish Radio Television). From 2008 to 2009, she gave a lecture on Television Directing in the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul University. She gave a seminar in the same subject at the International Cyprus University. Yazıcı currently works as a producer and a director at TRT Istanbul Television. Since 1999, She has been produced and directed documentary series on symbols-notion-meaning at the TRT Foundation.
Among her documentary series, there are "Surretteki Sır / Secret in the Appearance" (1999), "Yedi-Veren Düşleri / Ever glooming Dreams (2000), "Bilincin Haritası / Map of the Consciousness" (2002), "Yolcu / Traveller" (2004), "Kültürlerde Kurban / Sacrifice in Cultures" (2007), "Saklı Kentin Sırdaşı / Confidant of the Hidden City" (2010), "İki Denizin Birleştiği Yerde / Where Two Seas Meet" (2013) and "Sır / The Secret" (2013-2015). She has also directed various programs including “Sesler Kalır / Sounds Stay," "Düşlerle Gelen / Coming With the Dreams," "Erol Akyavaş," "Kurtuluş Savaşı’nda Donanmamız / Our Navy in the Independence War," "Barbaros Hayreddin," "Ateşi Çalmak / Stealing Fire," "Metalin Dansı / Dance of Metal," "Bulmaca Maratonu / Race for Crosswords," "Ah Bir Kahve Olsa /If Only There Was Coffee," "Sonsuz Yarış / Endless Race" and "Sinevizyon /Cinevision." Between the years 2010-2011, Yazıcı was the general director of the art and culture program "Hayat +" (Life +), which was aired live for five week days. In 2012, she produced and directed TRT′s folk project in Turkish cites in collaboration with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
Yazıcı has received several awards such as the Best Culture and Art Program for the work "Hayat +" (2010), the Turkish Journalists’ Association Sedat Simavi Awards, Jury Grand Prize in Television (2002), the Turkish Journalists Associations’ Journalist of the Year in the Television category (2000) and the 1999 TV Oscar prize for the program "Suretteki Sır" (1999).
