Kurtuluş Özgen was born in Eskişehir in 1971. After graduating from the Department of American Culture and Literature in the Faculty of Letters at Istanbul University in 1995, he studied at the Department of Cinema and TV in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University in 1995-2001. He pursued his study in Painting at Gazi University and completed his Master′s degree in Painting in 2012. He currently continues his doctoral degree in New Media at Gazi University.
In 1986 Özgen started working as a camera assistant (1986-1990) and assistant producer (1990-1992) in the Cinema Television Center. In 1993 he worked as a Turkish coordinator for the BBC documentary series "Look in the Eye." In the same year, he also worked as a Turkish coordinator for the documentary film series of Classic Video Inc. "Strategies For Success from Ephesians." In 1995 he established Nöbetçi Agency with Hasan Özgen. Within the scope of the agency′s projects, Kurtuluş directed various films related to documentary, advertisement, industry, and culture.
In 2005-2009 Özmen taught at the Department of TV Cinema in the Faculty of Communication at Gazi University. Since 2005 he has taught in the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design and the Faculty of Architecture at Bilkent University. He has also taught at the Photography and Video Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Gazi University since 2010.
Özmen continues his academic researches on cinematography, documentary film and video art. Since 2007 he has created his video art and installation works. He is a member of BSB (Association for Documentary Filmmaker) and works voluntarily for many cultural projects of the Çekül Foundation and the Union Of Historical Towns.
