Süleyman Turan was born in Istanbul in 1936. He had an interest in art and learned painting at several community centers in Kadıköy, Istanbul. Later he entered the Department of English Philology at Istanbul University but withdrew. Turan worked as a painter for a while. He then debuted in cinema in 1963. Since then he has acted in over 40 films. Turan has received several awards including the Best Supporting Actor Award in the Adana Golden Ball Film Festival (1971) and the Best Supporting Actor Award in the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival (1972). Besides being an actor, he is a writer, known for "Güllü" (1971), "Aysecik ve sihirli cüceler rüyalar ülkesinde" (1971) and "Sevgili dayım" (1977).
