Uğur Yücel was born in Istanbul in1957. He graduated from the Theater Department at the Istanbul Municipality Conservatory. Between 1975 and 1984, he performed in several plays at the Kenter Theatre, the Tef Kaber Theatre, the Dormen Theatre and the Şan Music hall. He was noticed for his roles in "Selamsız Bandosu" (1987) and "Muhsin Bey" (1987), and gained mainstream success when he performed in "Eşkıya" (1996). Yücel has also produced and performed in TV dramas such as “Aziz Ahmet”, “Karanlıkta Koşanlar,” “Alacakaranlık” and “Hırsız Polis” (Thief and Police). He wrote the scenario of TV drama “Karanlıkta Koşanlar” and some volumes of “Alacakaranlık”. Yücel made his own directorial debut with a short film in 1987. He projected it in silence on a big screen and accompanied it with percussion instruments on stage. He also directed TV drama “Karanlıkta Koşanlar” and some volumes of “Alacakaranık.”
Yücel was awarded as the “best supporting actor” with the film "Muhsin Bey" (1987) in the Antalya Film Festival; and the “best supporting actor” with the film "Arabesk" (1988) by the Screenwriter Association. He received the “best TV Director Prize” with the TV drama “İkinci Bahar” from the Faculty of Communication. He directed the film “Yazı Tura” and received 11 awards including the “best film”, the “best scenario” and “the best director” in the Antalya Film Festival. In 2007 Yücel performed in the TV drama "Hırsız Polis" and in the film “Hayatımın Kadınsın” with Türkan Şoray. Currently he performs in the TV drama “Canım Ailem.”
