Mehmet Can Mertoğlu was born in Akhisar in 1988. He studied Turkish Language and Literature at Bosporus University in Istanbul. Mertoğlu has written and published his articles on films in several magazines such as 6. Adam Basketbok. He worked as an editor for the journal Sinfil.
His first short film "Yokuş" (The Slope) had its world premiere at the 62nd Edinburgh Film Festival. The film was screened at numerous other international film festivals including Rotterdam, Montreal and Angers. In 2012 Mertoğlu shot his second short film entitled "Fer" (Glimmer). It was followed by the third short film "Moloz" (Debris). His first feature film entitled "Album" (The Cliff Shore) was screened in the 69th Cannes Film Festival in 2016. Mertoğlu currently continues his work in Istanbul.
