Meryem Yavuz was born in Istanbul in 1983. She graduated from the Film-TV Department in the Faculty of Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She started working as an assistant of lighting cameraman, and then became an assistant camera. As a cinematographer, she shot several short films such as "Ayak Altında" (2007), "Hüküm "(2008), and "Buhar" (2011). Yavuz received the "Best Cinematographer" award at a Kodak Film Schools National Competition and a Short Film Competition of Marmara University, Faculty of Communication. Her first feature film "İki Çizgi" (2008) was screened in the Venice Film Festival, Critics′ Week. In 2009 Yavuz was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus. In 2012, she was invited to one of the most prestigious cinematography festival "Camerimage" with her short film "Road to London." Her short film "Eye Am" (2013) was awarded a "National Best Film." With this film, Yavuz received a Jury prize in the Moscow Film Festival in 2014. Her short film "Seaburners" (2014) was premiered in the Berlinale Form. In 2016, she received a Bilge Olgaç Achievement Award in the 18th Flying Broom International Women′s Film Festival. Yavuz currently works as a cinematographer in Turkey, Brazil, France, Armenia and Greece.
